Girls in Construction
We actively create pathways and visibility for young women in a sector that has historically excluded them.
Construction Discovery, Training & Development
Construction shapes every road, school, hospital and home. Yet most young people never get a real look inside.
MAK BUILD is changing that — creating inclusive, practical discovery experiences for young people across Yorkshire and beyond.
Working towards pilot activities in 2027.
01 / Our purpose
The built environment shapes every road, school, hospital and home. Yet the people who design and build it remain a narrow slice of society.
MAK BUILD exists to open those doors — for young women, neurodiverse thinkers, and anyone who's been told construction isn't for them.
We actively create pathways and visibility for young women in a sector that has historically excluded them.
Construction is a hands-on, practical industry — a natural fit for many neurodiverse thinkers. We design our programmes with that in mind.
Geography, background and circumstance shouldn't determine who gets to build. We work to remove those barriers.
We believe young people thrive when they feel they belong. Every programme we design puts that at the centre.
02 / Programmes
Our programmes are in development, working towards a pilot in 2027. Here's what we're designing.
Short, immersive experiences that introduce young people to the breadth of careers in the built environment — on site, in the classroom and online.
Practical, accreditation-ready training pathways designed with employers and educators to build real, transferable skills.
Supporting educators and industry professionals to deliver inclusive, high-quality construction education.
Please note: Our programmes are in development. We are working towards pilot activities in 2027.
03 / Explore careers
A single construction project draws on dozens of disciplines. We help young people see themselves in all of them.
Shaping how buildings look, feel and function.
Making sure structures stand up safely.
Keeping complex projects on time and on budget.
Managing costs and contracts across a project.
Coordinating people, materials and safety on site.
The skilled hands that turn designs into reality.
04 / Learning Anywhere
Initially focused on Leeds, York, Selby and wider Yorkshire.
Real construction environments, real professionals, real insight.
Curriculum-linked sessions that bring construction into the classroom.
Digital resources and experiences that reach young people wherever they are.
05 / Partners
MAK BUILD is designed to work alongside schools, employers and industry bodies — not instead of them.
Curriculum partners who help us reach young people and embed construction awareness into education.
Industry partners who open their sites, share their expertise and help shape what good looks like.
Professional organisations who help us maintain quality, credibility and connection to the wider sector.
Partner names and logos will be confirmed and added here as relationships are formalised.
06 / Get involved
We'd love to hear from schools, employers, young people and anyone who wants to support what we're building.
